German Snacks: Currywurst

Behold the power of the German sausage! No visit to Germany is complete without the currywurst. It’s a national fast food dish consisting of steamed, then fried pork sausage, or wurst as the Germans say, cut into slices then smothered with curry ketchup and a sprinkle of curry powder. Deliciousness. It’s easy to find all over Berlin and frequently served at take-away outlets (German ‘Imbissbuden’) and from food trucks.

Currywurst is an icon of German popular culture and an estimated 800 million are served up in Germany every year! Currywurst can be found all over Germany but the snack is particularly popular in the metropolitan areas of Berlin, Hamburg, and the Ruhr Area.
